I have read every book Julie Klassen has written and this one absolutely did not disappoint. I thought it wasn't out until January 2010 and was so surprised to see it at my local book store. I snatched it right up. She gets better with each book she writes. Her books are so well written, it's amazing. I buy them wanting to delve right in but at the same time, try to read slowly so I can make the enjoyment last longer. Klassen's characters are people you wish you knew yourself, she makes them so very real. You feel their pain, know their joy and take them as your own friends.
I will not give away anything of the plot, but suffice it to say this is a magnificent book. There is mystery, romance, intrigue and faith all wrapped together in a delightfully longer book than the others.
Don't hesitate to buy this book. I'm hard to please and this is an excellent choice and not one bit of a waste of your book money. It's one for your collection.

I have read Julie Klassen other two books and enjoyed this book as much as the others. I was not disappointed in this book and look forward to the next one.
I feel like I am living in the nineteenth century with the characters as I read her books. There is mystery, romance and faith in this story and this book will not disappoint her readers. Your investment in this book will make it possible for you to enjoy it again.

Ms. Klassen has written another fantastic regency novel. She's becoming known for telling stories of characters we have rarely ever heard from. First, foundling homes, then apothecaries, now we get a glimpse of what life must have been like for a governess in Regency England. The characters were wonderfully written, the plot was very well thought out, and it never slowed down or dragged for me. My only disappointment is that now I have to wait a whole other YEAR for a new story and now anything I try to read now won't measure up! I loved it!

I loved this book. It is over 400 pages long and I started it at night with the thought I would read most of it and then go to sleep. Well I did not go to sleep until after I was finished. It is well written and kept my attention from beginning to end. The Regency time period is one of my favorites. The characters and plot were developed and interesting. The spiritual aspect is not heavy or preachy. In some ways I wish it were more developed. I have read all of Julie Klassen's books and liked them but this is my favorite. I highly recommend this Christian historical fiction novel.:)

Regency Romance is a new favorite of mine and Julie Klassen is a genius in the style. In "The Silent Governess" she blends deep characters, vivid mystery, luscious settings and beautiful layers of era, language and costuming that roll together and send you back in time.

This book has so much more going for it than just a nice romance. Olivia is fleeing her home after she tries to kill her father as he tries to kill her mother. She is in horrible danger and ends up in jail where she is strangled. She survives but has lost her voice. In the meantime she overhears Edward's awful secret and he is terrified that she is going to spill it, so he basically makes her a servant until he can make sure that his secret is safe. She becomes a nursemaid and then governess for Edward's cousins and in the meantime is trying to find out if her mother is dead or alive.

There are twists and turns in the story that kept me wanting to find out what would happen next to Olivia and Edward. I was very impressed with Julie's writing and style. I plan on searching out the rest of her books as well!
